I utilized a stencil for my "Giraffe" 3D print from Makerbot, which was based on the design available at http://www.thingiverse.com/derivative:328 and uploaded by Isis.

This is a personalized adaptation of the 3D printable design found at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:55821. ...It was created using the Customizer tool available on Thingiverse's website, with the specific thing ID of 55821.

This was designed using inksscape and printed on a creator pro.  It's easily scalable, I'd recommend printing it with at least .7 cm thickness.     Enjoy!!!
