Electrical discharge machining (EDM) for micro drilling is rising in popularity of production of fine parts. It allows the process of clean drilling without applying stress to the workpiece. The latest the machine can drill holes as small as 200 µm, but struggle to reduce the size to 100 µm due to the increase of asymmetric distortions of the electrode caused during machining (run out). These drilling techniques often use a micro drill chuck which clamps the drill using three jaws which are clenched by the rotation of the sleeve that is in the relation of the tapered thread inside the chuck.
