
048 Dolch mit Scheide / Dagger with scabbard

Site: Haltern am See, Kreis Recklinghausen (Germany) The discovery of this ancient site took place in April 2019. The object discovered is a Roman artifact, specifically a grave mound surrounded by a ring ditch. Material composition includes iron, silver, non-ferrous metal, wood, leather, and enamel. Its length with the scabbard measures 35 cm, while its width is approximately 6.2 cm. Dating places this find around Christ's birth during the early Roman Empire. The artifact is of Roman origin. This discovery has been preserved in the Central Fund Archive of LWL-Archaeology for Westfalen in Münster, with plans to relocate it to the LWL-Römermuseum in Haltern am See from 2022 onwards. A 3D model of this artifact was created using a Nikon D850 camera and Reality Capture software. The model was processed by Florian Westphal of LWL-Archaeology for Westfalen, with animation provided by Ulrich Lehmann of the same institution.
