President: Theodore Roosevelt, 1901-1909, Republican and Progressive Presidential Role: Chief Diplomat Contribution: The Big Stick Policy was a part of Roosevelt’s international relations policy. It explained relations with domestic political leaders, and his approach to issues with monopolies and trade unions. Impact on America/ Significance :The quote that Roosevelt said was, “Speak softly, but carry a big stick. It promotes the idea of staying peaceful, while still keeping it known that military action is an option. Stay calm and only fight back if it is necessary. I wanted to research this president because he created a major symbol that is still known today. Even though it was a political cartoon, it still made a big impact. It promoted a message to other political leaders that America could stay calm, but also have a military present if needed. It made America a world power.
