Design by Andrew Walker Clues This sign can be found on the side of a road. A type of road that can be found in-between states. This president served after WWII and during a part of the Cold War which led to the creation of this idea. This idea was created for military purposes, but is commonly thought of as civilian only today. Significance and Research The Object: The object is an interstate highway sign. Details about the Object: The object has the president’s name on it, and was held by the president, the sign itself is still up today, there are pictures of the president with this object. President: Dwight Eisenhower(1953-1961) Republican Party Presidential Role & Contribution Commander in Chief Executive order (Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956) Impact on America/ Significance This artifact was used to mark the creation of the interstate highway system which is still used today. I chose this President and artifact because I think Eisenhower and the interstate highway system is one of the most overlooked achievements and most overlooked presidents in our history and in classes we do not talk about either of these at all, but it is such an important development in today’s society.
