This spacer is convenient when using a cross cut sled or miter gauge to cut lumber. If you slide it onto the lip of your fence you can measure (+1", of course) the length you wish to cut using the fence. For safety, measure well before the blade and do not allow the spacer to contact the wood while cutting.
