I've been working with a long-time friend and guitarist to develop some accessories for the gigging musician, most of which you've probably already seen in my library.  I originally made him a slide holder to mount onto his guitar for quick-draws in the middle of solos, but every holder had to be made to exactly fit the kind of slide it was going to be holding and since there are SO many different kinds it could never hope to hold them all.  So he set me the challenge of making a holder which COULD.  This, I thought, would be interesting... It turned out to be a pain to design and this is actually the third iteration of the holder.  This one has to be mounted onto a mic-stand; the holder re-purposes the mechanism which I use for my 5-petal Iris Box, except this time rather than being the lid it's actually the main body.  When all put together the side leaves will open and close, adapting to a wide variety of different bores of slide; the maximum I could find was just over 30mm and the minimum was just over 20.  The hole in the middle, therefore, when the petals are fully closed is sized to that smaller bore, the overall inner diameter of the top cog being the 30mm. Yes, like the Iris Box this is (to use the technical term) a fiddly little b*****d to assemble.  You will also need five small pins 21mm long (I use cocktail sticks, cut to length); I did consider making them 3D printed too but I thought there was no way I could make them strong enough to survive in a working musician's kit-box.  I've included photos at all stages of assembly (of the mechanism anyway) so you'll hopefully be able to put it together easily enough.
