Here's a 100Hex based gear kit and the gears work! Thanks to McMaster-Carr for posting 3D files of their mechanical parts, I was able to use real gear geometry in Fusion 360. The base plate has 28 threaded holes located so that the different gears will mate in a number of different combinations. Check out the photos and the gear plan for all the possible combinations. - I've included a tool to make assembly easier - Make sure you print enough gears and bolts to try all the combinations - The longer bolt is used with the hands. - Don't tighten the bolts too much or the gears won't turn - Be gentle when first trying to turn the gears and don't force them If you feel really ambitious, print three sets of everything and then mount them on the stand using three bolts from the back. It's possible to connect all the gears across the three base plates. Please post a photo if you print this in different colors or work out a different gear combination. Update #1: Here's a short video of the gears in action: https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=wGhTTET9sgY or https://vimeo.com/255257882 Update #2: I've added three new bolt designs with partial threads. These bolts may be tightened down but will leave clearance so the gears can easily spin. Update #3: New double and triple gears added. Use the partial threaded bolts with these. Update #4: New YouTube video showing multiple levels of gears https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6l_Ru8qeA4
