120 to 124 Film Adapter

This adaptor allows 120 film spools to be loaded into cameras designed for 124 film, such as old Kodak Brownies. 124 was a rollfilm format, similar to 120 but 1 inch wider, and 124 cameras typically produced 3.25" x 4.25" negatives. Using this adaptor, the image is cropped vertically in to a 'panoramic' 2.25" x 4.25" (roughly 6x11 cm) format. Remixed from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3787976 but re-implemented in OpenSCAD, with some dimensional tweaks for a better fit, and a redesigned drive blade on the 120 end that can fit slot-type spool ends. You will need 4 adaptors, plus an empty 120 spool to use as a takeup reel. If the camera still has a 124 spool inside it, you can use that in a pinch, but you will have to unload the camera in complete darkness and immediately transfer the film into the developing tank, as the larger 124 spool will not protect it from light. The frame number window on 124 cameras is outside the 120 film area, so you will have to cover the window with lightproof tape, and experiment with how far to advance the film per frame. I've found that the following works for me: - Starting with the arrows on the backing paper aligned with the left edge of the frame (see the included photo), close the camera and wind 8 turns to get to frame 1. - Wind approximately 3 turns per frame, gradually decreasing to 2.5 turns by the last frame. I have included the OpenSCAD source that the STL file was generated from, with everything paramaterized - it should be possible to adapt this to fit many of the early-20th-century rollfilm formats. Also included are a couple of photos, shot by me on a Kodak Folding Brownie No.3 using this adaptor, to give some idea of what to expect. If your camera has a ground-glass viewfinder 'cube' like my Kodak Folding Brownie No.3, then you can attach https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4548712 to give a rough indication of the area that 120 film will capture.
