I had an old 17'' inch laptop ready for the dumpster, but one of the things I saved from this laptop was it's LCD display. I checked the model number of the screen and I order the following LCD Controller Board from: https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/33001604970.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dMu9lu8 And so I designed a stand for the display with this controller board integrated into it. Now the screen can be used as a second monitor connected through HDMI or VGA. It was a fun project to do and it got me a second monitor on my desk for only €14,-. Furthermore I used the following: - 8x M3 brass inserts; - 8x M3 screws with 18mm length; - An HDMI cable; - A 5v 2A power adapter; - 8x Mounting screws (reused from the original display hinges). And important for the assembly: - I didn't screw the two legs on the center peace, but I glued them; - I didn't design the mounting holes of the display in the bracket, since these were very small. I drilled them afterwards with a small drill. A small final remark: I didn't put much effort in hiding the buttons and cables at the back side, because this is out of sight anyway. And always open to feedback and/or comments.
