This is a larger version of the Thiébaut Frères bronze model specially commissioned by Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi. Bronze models like this one are eagerly sought by collectors as there were so few made. Bartholdi retained the copyright for casting copies of his working model of the Statue of Liberty in bronze and would only occasionally exercise it. Besides the one meter terra-cotta models sold to raise funds for the construction of Liberty in France, the bronzes cast by Thiébaut Frères are considered among the finest small-scale representations of Bartholdi's vision of Liberty. A copy of a one meter example of their work is on display at the Statue of Liberty Exhibit on Liberty Island. This example of the Statue of Liberty has lost its rays from the crown at some point in the past century and the right arm and torch are slightly bent inwards (probably from a fall) but the overall appearance is still appealing. I'm still tweaking the fine art of photographing dark, shiny bronze sculptures so Photoscan can capture more detail. This recreation is somewhat low in detail, but that is more my fault. If anyone wants to take a try at cleaning up the details and maybe attempting a little straightening out of the right arm and replacing the missing rays, by all means, be my guest!
