Say F*** YOU to Coronavirus & get hench =================================== These are crazy times. Along with toilet paper and tinned food, weight plates seem to be impossible to buy right now. If you've been kicked out from your gym and are trying to excercise from home (you should!!!), you might find it useful to make your own weights. I used 50% concrete mix, 30% cement, 20% sand (all I had), and they're at around 2.7kg. Yours might be a little different, depends on what mix you use. You'll need around 280g of filament per 2 halves. So not exactly cheap, but still cheaper than what a**hole humans are charging by exploiting the crisis we're in. Just glue the 2 halves, fill with concrete (add some small rocks as aggregate) and when solid you can cut off the flanges and get pumpin. Or just leave them. The shape is a little odd, but it's mostly to help the print. The hole is a couple mm larger than 1" (this is a standard size for homegamer equipment). It doesn't need supports if your printer/slicer is ok with bridging. The fill hole is in a corner, so not the easiest to fill up. Having it there means it's not unsupported at the top. You'll just have to prop it up at an angle when it's full. If you can - let the concrete dry slowly otherwise it will crack and that can be dangerous. Use 2 part epoxy to glue the 2 halves. You don't need much. Last thing you want it the 2 halves splitting as you're putting in the cement! Obvs use at your own risk. I hold no responsibiity if you drop it on your toes. V1.1: ========================== 2nd Iteration: - Flanges were larger than necessary, so I reduced them, and don't need to be cut off tbh - it's a lot of work. - thinned the walls slightly - original was unecessarily strong and used too much filament. - added 4 internal ribs. V1: ======================= 1st iteration: Is what I printed, and is what is pictured.
