UPDATE: added a couple caps with larger text with smaller lines, i over tightened mine an it pushed up on the center of the lines an made it really obvious so i thinned them out to try to make the structure stronger while making the text bigger to show better, still haven't gotten the text insert to fit into the caps negative text but ive been going with the blank shell insert thats rounded an using a led to light the insert under the cap. im going to remake that insert so that it will hold the led an can be pressed in from the bottom so it will be holo but give it a little thicker walls everywhere except for the very top where the light needs to shine through the most. just picked a 2009 mustang gt up a little bit ago an its shift knob wasn't in the best shape so i printed a few different shifters i found online an i found alot that would have worked but only a few that i actually liked the look an feel of but the biggest issue i had was how little they weigh so they never felt that great so i seen a few that was made to have weights added so i decided to try to just recreate the original shifter as close as i could an i got the shape pretty close. only thing i really would like to do over is the text with a different font but i only had 3 to choose from so i used what i had but i can add the cap smooth without the text or with whatever anyone would like or i can share the tinker file so you can make changes yours self if u would like but for now ive included all the stuff ive printed. i was never able to get any of the inserts with the text to fit into the negatives of the text in the cap so i still need to work on this but if u did alittle sanding u might be able to get it to fit but i opted to just use a blank insert that was rounded to fit to the inside of the cap an a white led to light it up so it makes it easier to see. i used two big nuts to give it weight an at first they was a bit loose an it added a nice click when shifting but after adding the white insert cap i used a spring between the blank insert and v3 blank shell an the pressure secured the nuts an have kept it from giving the nice click so might get a longer spring so i can let it sit on top of the shifters threaded shaft instead so it will have the click or clunk (is probably a better way to describe it) when shifting again. not sure how it will do in the long term, ive not got a chance to drive the car much, im waiting on some parts to arrive in the mail before i do much driving but once i get this stuff in an back on the car ill be able to put it all back together an actually drive it some an see how it does under actually daily use but as of now it seems pretty good. i may add a second hole for wiring so it doesn't have to be drilled by others but right now thats how i got the led to the inside under the boot an up through the hole i drilled, put the body on first b4 trying to run the wires or they will try to wrap around the shifter.also for the screws it uses m3 bolts to put to cap an body together an i added threads, im not 100% what is in it is correct but it should be m12 x 1.5, i used a tap to clean the threads out b4 trying to thread it on so i can say for sure how well what is in the model will do on there own, i printed in pla+ ive always used pla an pla+ for my car stuff but ive seen others say they had issues with warping but where i live mut not get hot enough to give me this issue cause ive made gears for window motors an countless clips an brackets mostly in pla an more recently pla+ but have never had issues with them failing, the window motors parts are still going 4 yrs later an this was one of the first thing i ever printed so i know the quality of those are not as good as what i would make now but have never had any need to replace them but pla has always held up for me so that may be something u want to keep in mind if u print this. if u live in a hotter area then u might want to go with petg or abs just depends on what works best for you. hope someone else find it useful an if you do print it an use it, if u can share a make of it. id love to get to see more of the stuff i make used by other ppl.
