2-way ventilator splitter with integraged valve mounts & flow restrictor

Something designed, hopefully never to be used. Having tried out a few methods to split ventilation from one ventilator to multiple test lungs, this is my latest solution. It is designed to be simple and fast to print.

The splitter has integrated valve mounts, which are reversible to allow an umbrella valve to be mounted on either side for inspiratory or expiratory sides of the circuit. This prevents flow crossover between circuits in parallel, preventing potential contamination and allowing modulation of inspiratory pressures.

For the valves, any 15-20mm umbrella valve should fit, such as those found in snorkel purge valves.

The flow restrictor uses 22mm to 10mm adapters and a short piece of 10mm PCV tubing. I printed some clamps I found on thingiverse, which work reasonably well. Other clamps would also be fine.

4-way ventilation is theoretically possible, but balancing flow between 2 circuits is hard enough.

I am an anaesthetist and have tested this method with our biomedical engineer on our Drager Primus anaesthetic machines.

-update 4/4/20 Improved 10mm connectors, better valve support & smaller centre hole for smaller valves.

Print instructions

Designed to be printed fast. 0.3mm layer heights are fine, PLA or PETG.
