I work at a university and students are consistently misplacing the quick release mounting plates for our tripods, so we've had them replaced with new ones. The updated plates utilize a standard 3/4" 1/4-20 flathead screw to securely hold cameras in place, which is why they're slightly thicker than the original mounts.
