2020 The North Face Sundowner

This was another school project, designed and modeled in clay, then revisited a few years later and made more substantial. It is my first completed automotive CAD model. The idea behind the project is to design and develop a small vehicle, within the footprint of 3.0m x 1.8m, can fit four adults (95th percentile male up front, 50th percentile females in the back), and is just as usable in urban and suburban environments as it is in its true element, the outdoors. This car was designed with active young people in mind, men and women, who live in the city and suburban areas, but enjoy various outdoor sports, such as skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, trail running, kayaking, surfing and much more. In wheel electric motors power the Sundowner, and an idea I had was to enhance the grip of the wheels and tires by incorporating a system that would serve as a cam when activated, staying stationary along the front axle and pushing out the spokes at low speeds as they pass over the raised surface of the cam. The spokes would dig into softer ground and achieve increased grip. More renders will follow as well as the CAD data. Enjoy the teaser in the mean time.
