The Thunderbolt ports on my 27" iMac 2017 were very loose for some reason and drives would eject if someone so much as breathed the wrong way in the room. This little design, with a little bit of industrial sticky tape at the top and bottom, stabilizes the ports and keeps them firmly connected.
