3/4 point and cantilever bending test

Bending tests are some of the oldest and widely used and are used to determine the elastic modulus, bending moment and flexural stress and strain. Using a 3 point, 4 point and cantilever bending test rig you can print at school, we have created a series of lesson plans used to guide students through the concepts of elasticity, bending moment, flexural modulus and then beam geometry and finally CAD and FEA Analysis. The lesson plans run through points in the NSW HSC Engineering Studies syllabus however they are also applicable to many other disciplines including physics and maths. The most up to date lesson plans can be found on the new School of Materials Science and Engineering website in the lesson plans section (site launching late 2020). In terms of differences from Stefan's excellent design that this thing is remixed from: we have shape optimised it for shorter print time, included a space for a ruler to cheaply measure deflection, included a range of samples to print (you may want to scale these up), a range of applicators and the ability to conduct cantilever tests.
