32 mm oblique filter stop for microscopes

32 mm oblique filter stop for microscopes

thingiverse

This is a set of oblique filters measuring 32 mm OD and 4 mm thick. I designed it to fit the swing-out filter holder of a Leitz/Leica HM-LUX compound microscope. There is a small knob on the bottom face of the filter so that you can feel where the hole is and so that you can rotate the filter from underneath. I include micrographs showing the epidermis of a leaf from a succulent. The first micrograph shows the oblique filter in action, while the second micrograph (with the warmer hue) is standard brightfield lighting. Oblique lighting shows more of the texture and a differently-contrasting view of the cell contents. Zoomed-in sections of these micrographs (first oblique, then brightfield) are shown also. You can open the included .f3d file in Fusion 360 to change the dimensions of the filter if you like.
