3D Candle Holders (5th grade lesson)

pinshape

This is a sampling from a 5th grade art lesson. Students created a votive or taper candle holder, expressing their creativity, while also learning how to create a 3D model with precise measurements. For most students, this was their first exposure to 3D modeling. The best part of the project was seeing students make the connection between 3D modeling software and the actual 3-dimensional print. It is very different to see something printed versus what your brain envisions on the computer. This allows students to begin to make better connections between the digital world and the real world. Students had the option to paint their final prints.
