3D print tolerance gauge

3D print tolerance gauge

Heyo. This is my first design here. So i had this problem where i download things here and they wont fit together at all... i mean like 1.5mm wont fit. Designs seemed to be alright because other people say it fits with first print. and then i came upon Lars Andersens tolerance gauge... You can make your own, so he said! and so i did! :) Heres link on how he did it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrEwHBIYmWM&ab_channel=LarsChristensen Its kinda big and bulky and 2 circles of the same size comletely full with material... So i made 2 circles- one within other, which saves ~50% material and made holes in smaller one to save even more. Made bigger numbers, so that my printer can actually print them. All in all i thought its a neat desigh and by adding my own tweaks, i hope this can help someone to see what tolerances your printer can do and wherther to tweak designs or do you have to dig up your printer to get it to work the best it can. Plus you can measure and compare if its actually printing the right size circles. My first prints, just as expected didnt fil together at all, even with max tolerance. Step 1: Lower extrusion rate. I did go down to 85% but started running in uderextrusion problems, so ~93% seems to be sweetspot(i havent really done extrusion esteps calibration yet). Step 2: Measure actual travel distance. I made this tower (100x100x100mm) to see how precise travel distance on my printer is.. and oh boy i was off.. so i calibrated steps on printer axis. I might post that as a design later, but i saw similar designs on Thingiverse, not a cube but more like a corner of a cube. Oh and Check all axis and bed- maybe just something is loose or too tight.... You can print it in any and every material where you need to make tight fitting parts and see how to design parts for your printer. Im adding .stl and .step files so that, if needed, you can adjust and check sizes on them. Enjoy!
