The fan powered car does what its name suggests: it is a motorized vehicle that travels using energy supplied by the fan .The fan is attached to the car, and low friction wheels are mounted. The car will run on a motion track where the time it takes to travel a certain distance will be measured. There will be photo gate timers at each end to measure the time accurately. The goal of this project is to design a fast and energy efficient car with limited supplies. We worked in partnership with one other person, so we had to work together collaboratively. Once the measurements are taken, we will calculate the energies present in the car and how much of each energy. This consists of supplied energy, the kinetic energy of the car, the work done by the motor, the work done by the propeller, the friction and vibration of the car, the circuit heat energy and the rotational energy. Through this project, we will explore the concept of conservation of energy, and have a hands-on experience in which we discover how the conservation of energy works in real life.
