A few different designs for 3D printed game controller that I've come up with. All models were prototyped on a Voxel8 Development Kit printer, additional information is available upon request. I personally tested many of these designs and used the classic style occasionally. They all rely on Ortho-planar springs which are printed out of PLA and used in different assemblies to allow for planar displacement. These springs are coated with conductive silver ink which completes circuits and allows button presses to register. All the traces are printed with the pneumatic dispensing system of the Voxel8 Printer. Voxel8 printers are capable of dispensing high conductive silver ink traces that make this 3D HID device possible. Future use cases for this applications include 3D printing custom control systems to rapidly prototyed telemetry tools. Alternative it could be used to design controllers for those with disabilities.Currently there is no simple way of quickly prototyping an electro-mechanical system like this due to requiring conductive flexible traces, rigid plastics and conductive springs/buttons. This is a quick alternative that could revolutionize many industries and could be used by companies such as Microsoft, Facebook and Steam for VR controller design and Nintendo & Playstation for controller designAll the HID controls are managed by a microcontroller with a USB transceiver such as a Teensy or Arduino Pro Micro
