This 3d printable electronic Cello features an integrated sound chamber with sound post and bass bar to better replicate the sound of acoustic cellos. It is a full sixed 4:4 cello and uses standard off the shelf cello wood components and strings. It is designed for printing on larger printers such as the Lulzbot Taz or CR10S with a 300mm bed. After 1 year of testing, we are finally ready to release this project. During that 1 year time the cello has remained in tune, playable, and has not shown any strain or cracking. Sound quality seems to be comparable to a mid-range acoustic cello, and can be amplified for concert use quite easily. There is a basic instructions document uploaded, V2 with a more in depth BoM and better diagrams is on the way. This project assumes you have advanced 3d printing skills and basic luthier sills at your disposal. Development thread for this project: https://forum.lulzbot.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=5037 In addition to these files you will also need the following: M3 and M5 heat set inserts M3 and M5 bolts of various lengths and M5 nylock nuts 2 conductor + ground Shielded wire (security system wire works well here) 420mm long 8mm steel shafts (3d printer bearing shafts work fine here) Gotoh JCS-1 Stratocaster Jack Plate Fender Stratocaster Style Gotoh BB-02 for 9V Battery Box for Guitar An electric pickup A CV210E preamp, an electrical switch, a ¼” and 1/8” audio jack 7-10 Lbs 3d printer plastic (I used push plastics black ABS, PLA may be a better choice) 4 Bass guitar tuning pegs A cello endpin, saddle, tailpiece, bridge, fingerboard, nut and strings Epoxy This project also includes a full complement of step files for ease of modification. The center chamber section will also be uploaded as a free model to encourage development of alternate center sections. Perhaps a real wood faceplate, or a hybrid plastic and metal resonance block? All proceeds from this project will go to fund additional open source free designs available at https://www.thingiverse.com/piercet/designs Thank you for your interest, and Enjoy!
