3D Printing Text Plate

When learning a programming language, one usually starts by writing a simple program to just print a message "Hello World". I am a noob in 3D printing and am waiting for my 3D printer to arrive. I think the very first object I print should be a "Hello World", too. So I designed this "Hello World" plate, by OpenSCAD, to be my first printing object. Note that you can customize text as well as extruder positions (both x and y) to simulate printing-effect. Update (2013-04-16): I have improved the design a little bit. The plate width is now determined by the text you input. Also you can choose the single side style, instead of hollow, which is suitable for characters like "i" or "!" Update (2013-05-16): Dual extrusion supported Instructions For single extrusion I made (3d_printing_text_all.stl): Uniform scale thickness from 5mm to 7mm Rotate plate to stand on HBP Makerware Medium profile (infill: 10%, shells: 2, layer: 0.27mm) Raft: yes Supports: yes For dual extrusion I made (3d_printing_text_plate_plate.stl and 3d_printing_text_plate_text.stl): The plate default lies down on HBP. Makerware High profile (infill: 15%, shells: 3, layer: 0.15mm) Raft: no Supports: no
