“3D Twisted Hope” My 3d model design for the 3d Printing Industry Awards 2020 - Design competition. This model is split in TWO parts: One part for SLA in Green translucent/transparent colour which resembles “Hope”. It is “Twisted” cause despite the efforts we still have slightly lockdown restrictions as well as quarantine lists and increased number of cases across the globe. In this 3d model we can find features such as internal channels and Micro features as follows: Four twisted hollow pipes coming from the top with a minimum of 0.2mm diameter size. The same multiple features can be found across the whole design, included at the top of the open “Dome” structure around the edges in a circular pattern. Finally there are also 3 Hexagon shapes made of smaller Hexagons which in my opinion resemble the Logo of PROTOLABS & slightly 3DPIA which is also a Hexagon. I definitely had to include this as they will be manufacturing the Awards. The second part for MJF or SLS in White Nylon colour which include slightly features such as Lattice Structure that are trying to simulate being in “lockdown” or trapped behind some bars. On either side of this model we will find TWO independent extruders “dropping” filament downwards and finishing with the “P” letter that stands for PROTOLABS. The drops and the “P” are made of several squares extruded inwards with a minimum feature size of 0.75 mm. I decided to include 2 Extruders in the design to resemble the capabilities/FDM 3D printer features of the new Craftbot Flow IDEX XL to print dual-color, which is the first prize in this competition. Finally I extruded Upwards from the bottom base using a “cross” shape to fit the part printed in Green colour. This way is safely attached to avoid using super glue when assembling.
