Another simple remix of the 3Dator Bowden Extruder REMIXED (MK8 GEAR) that provides a 1/8" inside thread to take the PC4-01 push fitting for the PTFE tube. I've included the OpenSCAD file that I used to create the mod. With the PC4-M5 push fitting used in this design I noticed unwanted movement of the PTFE tube on retraction as witnessed by 50koruny. The PC4-01 push fitting is supposed to remedy this issue. The PC4-01 has a BSP thread that is close to M10 in diameter but has a much finer pitch that does not allow an M10 captive nut as a solution. Instead a 1/8" thread has been printed in an extension on the extruder output to capture enough of the push fitting thread to connect properly. Unfortunately, the STL file generated by OpenSCAD had manyfold issues so I had to repair it. I have used the Microsoft 3D Builder software that comes standard with Windows 10. Cura had no problem slicing the repaired STL. Update November 16, 2016 Added a mirrored version of the base in case you want to create a mirrored version of the extruder. How I Designed This The OpenSCAD source depends on the threads library for the english thread module. There is an option in the OpenSCAD file to create the base in two parts: one of the base proper and another of the extension with the 1/8" thread. This is controlled through the boolean variable whole (default set to true). The idea behind this was to print the thread along the Z-axis to have a sufficiently fine pitch. This extension part must be rotated along the X-axis to make the clips with which it attaches to the base sufficiently strong and flexible. In the end the thread of the base plus extension printed as a whole proved sufficiently accurate. The 1/8" push fitting screwed in just fine. Update November 16, 2016 The OpenSCAD source has been updated to allow creation of a mirrored version of the base by setting the global parameter mirror_ to true (default set to false).
