3M Filter Exhaust Assembly

3M Filter Exhaust Assembly

**WIP:** I have not yet fully-assembled this, as I am still waiting on some parts. The dimensions should be sound, but it may need some refinement. This is an exhaust/fume-extractor assembly intended for 3D printer enclosures. It uses a 40mm fan and 3M 60926 respirator filters. Many existing exhaust/fume-extractor setups use, at best, a HEPA + charcoal filter. This may make the exhaust air smell better, but does nothing to protect against some of the more-hazardous fumes from 3D printing, especially with ABS, Nylon, PETG, etc. File names (colors correspond to cover image): * `3M_Filter_Assembly_v1.stl` - All the parts in a single file * `3FA_-_Wall_Flange_Inner_v1.stl` - Connector from filter to wall (green) * `3FA_-_Wall_Flange_Outer_v1.stl` - Connector from wall to fan housing (yellow) * `3FA_-_Fan_Bracket_Inner_v1.stl` - Fan housing, inlet side (blue) * `3FA_-_Fan_Bracket_Outer_v1.stl` - Fan housing, exhaust side (red) I recommend using fans designed for applications with high flow-resistance (see "Additional Materials" below for recommendation). It may be possible to attach a centrifugal fan (blower) in order to achieve higher flow rates, but exceeding 15m³/hr will likely reduce the filter's effectiveness. For the gasket, you can use 3M part number 3895, "3M Inhalation Port TR-654 Replacement Gaskets", cut one from silicone, or print one using TPU. If you choose one of the latter two, the gasket should be circular; 33mm OD, 21mm ID, 1.2mm thick (depending on material compressibility). If you would like to exhaust the air elsewhere (e.g. through a window or exterior vent), use a 3.5mm hose/duct (some fitting may be required). Depending on the fans, distance, duct material, turns, etc., additional fans may be required for sufficient airflow. Shout-out to [Plasticore](https://www.thingiverse.com/plasticore/), whose [Enclosure filter ass. for 3M filter](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3224243) was a major inspiration for this project.
