The HMS Surprise was L'Unité, a French Unité-class corvette captured by the Royal Navy in 1796. It is famous in real life for the recovery of HMS Hermione in 1799. The HMS Surprise is classified as a 28-gun ship, although it was equipped with twenty-four 32-pounder carronades, ten 18-pounder carronades, and four (or two) 4-pounder chase guns. Present in the Master and Commander collection. It is the ship that appears more in the series of novels, being Jack at its command on different occasions. Designed by Saturnalia Studios.
