4" Swimbait Soft Plasitic Fishing Lure Mold

This is a 2 Piece Open Pour Fishing Lure Mold for making a 4" soft plastic swimbait. (After many request I've decided to finally publish this.) There are two different version of the mold but the lure is the same in both. Version 1 - has a thin top which is easier to pour because you can use the sharper edge to remove any over pour by just running your thumb over it. The downside is the thin top section of the mold may melt and or warping over time. Version 2 - has a thicker reinforced top so it won’t melt but it’s harder to pour because you have to stop pouring at the top of the bait before it over pours or you will get a flat raised top on the bait. The Hook Insert was originally meant as more of a temple to use to cut a piece of .125" aluminum sheet but so far the printed version has been working for pouring but it my eventually warp. The baits end up sticking to the mold slightly because of the details print a little rough at this size but they still come out of the mold ok with a little effort. You do need to let the baits cure in the mold for about 10 minutes as a 3D printed mold does not dissipate the heat like an aluminum mold. This mold is more suited to single colors because you can not pre-heat a 3D printed mold to avoid cold cracking while pouring two or more colors. I have poured three colors with limited success though. Pouring the colors at the same time without them cooling does work but does not produce clean lines. You can however dust the molds with mica powders before pouring to achieve some good results. See https://www.theneverendingprojectslist.com/fishingprojects/twopieceopenpourswimbaitmold/ for some more info. This is a small mold with a rather small pour area so I don't recommend this as a first mold or for beginners to open pouring. These are 3D printed plastic mold so you have to be careful with your plastisol temps. I printed this mold in PLA+ and try to pour my Plastisol at or around 300°. (I use Dead On Plastix's brand of Plastisol.) I fish this lure with a #4 weighted hook. NOTICE - My files and designs are all Copyrighted © and are exclusively for private and personal use.
