45 Degree Helix Gears (right-angle drive)

thingiverse

This is a customizer for creating a pair of helical gears each having 45 degree helix, which combine to form a right angle gear transmission. The customizer calculates the Gear "module" (how large the teeth are) based on the specified number of teeth and the separation between input and output gear centers. The gears are meant to be press-fit onto round shaft. The small black gears pictured were an early proof of concept with no chamfer, and the edges are surprisingly pointy and sharp feeling in the hand. Chamfering the gears really takes the edge off, and just looks more like a proper gear to me. I used this scad to design a geared single motor Z axis assembly for my Voxel Ox 3D Printer which can be seen in the attached picture. The overall Z-axis build has been posted to OpenBuilds here: https://openbuilds.com/builds/voxel-ox-with-helix-gear-z-transmission-single-z-motor.7174/ All prints pictured are in eSun PETG.
