5/16-18 Bolt And Nut

thingiverse

This is a bolt and nut with 5/16-18 threads. Also included a single thread for the OD thread and the ID thread so anyone can make whatever thread length they want to. These threads are not made to exact machined thread tolerences as thats not enough clearance for my printer to print succssfully. 4/11. I remade the threads to be a little closer to true machined thread dimensions. Its a little more acurate and i had no problem screwing the printed bolt and nut together. I will try and make some more bolts and nuts with different sizes and maybe even some common metrics as i get time. Instructions Using Slic3r i had to drop my extrusion multiplier by apx 20% to get a machined nut to thread onto the bolt. Same with the printed nut, drop the multiplier down until it will thread onto a machined bolt. I have not gotten both printed parts to thread together yet but i havent played with it to long. Experiment around with it until you have it working. For the single thread files - The length of thread for an 18 pitch thread is .0555" , so copy translate the threads up or down by .0555" one thread at a time. On the ID thread just stack however many threads needed on top of eachother to get the length of thread you want and then positive boolean it into a nut or whatever you want that has a hole the same diameter as the OD of the thread. On the OD thread to make a bolt - Stack one thread on top of another to get the length of thread needed. Then create a bolt with the OD diameter about .001" smaller than the OD of the thread. Then subtract boolean the thread from the bolt to create the threads.
