Eisenhower (1953-1961), Republican Presidential Role: Chief Executive Presidential Act: Signed the The Interstate Highway Act of 1956 Impact on America: I chose President Eisenhower and The Interstate Highway System because it was the largest infrastructure project in American history. Additionally, it helped move people to the suburbs in a time when cities were threatened during the heat of the cold war. I chose this President because I admire him as both a general and a president. Throughout his lifetime he gave his all to protect Americans. The Interstate Highway Act was in response to potential soviet missile strikes to cities. This President thought people would be safer if they dispersed to the suburbs. Works Cited History.com Staff.
