*Fix APA Citation IS THIS A REMIX? **More for significance, what is the state of the Cherokee now? What challenges do they still face? Mystery Artifact Created by: Karla Hernandez Clues and Questions Clues: “The symbol on the hat is of the Cherokee tribe” “The hat doesn’t belong to the president itself, but to someone (not part of the U.S. government) who also had much influence on a large group of people” “He indirectly killed many Natives” “This president created his own political party” Questions Which president do you think this object is connected to? Why is he so significant in U.S. History? What was the cause of so many deaths in the Native American population? Significance and Research The Object: A Top Hat Details about the Object: The symbol of the Cherokee tribe is to connect the hat with John Ross. He was the leader of the Cherokee tribe during the Jackson Administration. President: Andrew Jackson, Democrat, March 4, 1829 – March 4, 1837 Presidential Role Chief Legislator Political Action: The Indian Removal Act of 1830 “The Indian Removal Act was signed into law by President Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830, authorizing the president to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within existing state borders. A few tribes went peacefully, but many resisted the relocation policy.” (loc.gov) Impact on America/ Significance I decided to research this president because of how radical his views and actions were. He greatly impacted the Native Americans; it is seen through America’s westward expansion in the belief of Manifest Destiny and how Natives now live in reservation sites throughout the country.
