8020 Live Spool Holder
pinshape
This is a spool holder that glides along my 8020 1515LITE bar, allowing the spool to rotate freely. I will be building a storage-only version that holds one unused spool at a time since I only need one active spool in operation. The 8020 bar is an integral part of my Replicator table built from scrap 8020 stock. This spool holder provides sufficient clearance to slide onto the end of the 8020 bar and can be easily positioned for use with both narrow and wide spools. I designed it to accommodate spools as small as 160mm in diameter, but it will work with any size spool you can find. I created this design using parts from previous projects that were readily available on hand. It features shoulder screws and flanged bearings with extended inner rings for added stability. If I were starting from scratch and not reusing existing components, I would opt for a low-cost cam follower instead. There is an unused set of holes on the part that can be used to hold a 1/2" long standoff (F/F #4-40). Initially, I included them as a precautionary measure in case the parts needed additional support to slide smoothly along the 8020 bar. However, the shoulder screws proved to be sufficient for smooth operation. This design is V2, with the previous version (V1) being a single-piece design that required external support. This new design prints more quickly and eliminates overhanging features that require support during printing.
