A conformal bone plate on a Humerus bone

An interpretation of a bone plate that would be used to help heal fractured bones. The inner surface to this bone plate is conformal to the surface of the bone. This should permit better fixation. The device would be made using 3D printing which would easily allow to create the complex surface.The model begins by importing an .stl file of a humerus from an anonymous patient. The .stl file is imported using the Scan to 3D interface of SolidWorks. The mesh was then converted to a surface. A block was imposed over the surface geometry and the a Surface Cut was used to give the form of the bone to the surface of the block. A Lofted Cut was then used to remove the excessive bits of the block. Fillets and Cuts were used to further shape the bone plate. An imaginary fracture line is added in the model (however, it is not visible in the render).
