With a large stack of weights on the barbell, these six pointed nuts tend to naturally unscrew themselves during some exercises (like bicep curls), if they are only tightened by hand. This wrench can provide enough torque to properly secure the weights to the bar to prevent any unwanted shifting of the weights.

I have measured a few different sets of these six pointed nuts and the tolerances are incredibly sloppy and inconsistent, even on supposedly symmetrically features on individual nuts. I sized this wrench so it would work for the largest overall dimensions I encountered, so it will hopefully be functional with a large majority of the different sizes out there. If you need to rescale it to a different size to make it fit, here are the dimensions of the default wrench interfaces:

Key dimensions of wrench features at 100% scale:

Diameter at concave face (points of star) = 73.7mm

Minimum diameter at convex face (inner corners of star) = 53.6mm

Span between parallel faces (sides of star) = 43.15mm

Printing Instructions:

I used PLA filament for the wrench in the pictures. To ensure the wrench would be strong enough, I used a 0.6mm diameter nozzle with 4 parameters and 40% rectilinear infill. I would recommend the typical slicer settings for stronger prints: thicker layers, higher nozzle temperatures, slower fan speed, etc..
