AAXA P300 Pico Projector Fan Adapter

AAXA P300 Pico Projector Fan Adapter

This is a parametric fan adapter for a particular pico projector that has a noisy-ass fan. This adapter allows you to remove the factory fan and instead attach a silent fan to the outside of the projector housing. The included 30mm fan operates at 9000rpm and makes a really obnoxious (decibel level aside) sound. I replaced this with a 92mm 2000rpm* fan that is practically silent when used with this adapter. With the adapter the perceptible projector sound is now some sort of switching noise coming from within the light engine itself. Don't think I'm going to 3d print my way out of that :) I experimented with the hull extrusion height as low as 10mm and it seemed adequate but the exhaust airflow out of the front of the unit was perceptibly less than the factory solution. A 20mm hull extrusion height seems to yield similar exhause airflow with the 92mmm 2000rpm fan I selected (Real science, I know). * Note if you pick a lower RPM fan you've got to design a RPM signal generator or else the projector will shut down after several seconds. I used a 555 Timer with 1 uF capacitor and 5kOhm potentiometer. Will attach that circuit schematic later...
