This is an example of leaf gilding. In contrast to gold color paint, this print is covered with a layer of actual gold so thin you can see the layer lines through it. The process is easy to learn, but difficult to master. Total retail cost of the gold was about US$1. This process dates back at least to Ancient Egypt, so it seems fitting to combine it with the latest of manufacturing techniques.
