Acrylic box / mailbox

thingiverse

I was surprised to find no acrylic box on Thingiverse, so I used the API from [boxes.py](https://www.festi.info/boxes.py/). The code I ran was: ``` scripts/boxes closedbox --thickness=5 --output=test.svg --format=svg --x=254 --y=300 --h=100 ``` where 1 pixel = 1 mm. I modified the code from [GitHub](https://github.com/florianfesti/boxes/) to add counter-bed bolts to increase the strength of the box (I may submit that code to GitHub or post it here, depending on interest). I manually removed the finger joints related on the front panel and added a few other things: a round hole on the front panel for the lock, a rectangular hole on the side panel for the lock shaft, and holes for the hinge. I also designed corresponding rounded rectangular holes on the hinge. I placed the holes on the two halves on the hinge slightly offset from each other so the bolts do not touch each other when the box closes, which avoids having to saw off any extra length of the bolt. The box is low security and we use it in the office to collect suggestions or visitor passes. The list of material I used is below, for completeness only and without endorsement nor guarantees - 2 sheets of acrylic, 5 x 400 x 600 (e.g., from [Kitronik](https://www.kitronik.co.uk/43282-orange-perspex-sheet-fluorescent-5mm-x-600mm-x-400mm.html)) - M3 x 20mm acrylic bolts and nuts for the bed bolts (e.g., from [Caterpillar Red](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Transparent-Clear-Plastic-Acrylic-Bolts/dp/B00NFYO3QK/)) - piano acrylic hinges (e.g., from [Caterpillar Red](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Transparent-Plastic-Acrylic-Continuous-Hinges/dp/B00R0BCWNU/)) - a 0.5mm polypropylene sheet for hinger spacers to avoid the hinge catching on the acrylic panels and breaking (e.g., from [Kitronik](https://www.kitronik.co.uk/43140-frosted-polypropolene-sheet-05mm-x-1100mm-x-650mm.html)) - a mailbox lock (e.g., from [Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075D5261L/)) - M5 acrylic bolts and nuts (e.g., from [Caterpillar Red](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brackets-Polished-Transparent-Perspex-Acrylic/dp/B078GD624R/), which have L-brackets that I used for testing but did not make it in the final design) - adhesive hooks to avoid drilling into the ceramic tiles of a kitchen (e.g., from [Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adhesive-AIKZIK-Stainless-Bathroom-Office-Waterproof/dp/B07B9H9QKW/)) The back panel has 8 holes, 4 for the adhesive hooks (as shown in two photos), and 4 for screws with wall plugs. The back panel has 8 holes, 4 for the adhesive hooks which served in the opaque box (and the last three photos show the mounting), and 4 for screws with wall plugs which served in the clear box.
