This is a simple focusing adapter that I made for my Rodenstock Omegaron 150mm f/4.5 enlarger lens to be used with my Sony E-mount cameras. This particular enlarger lens has a 39mm diameter thread with 0.75mm pitch -- beware that many enlarger lenses have different threads (including 39mm with 1mm pitch). The tube length is intended to work with lenses from about 135mm to 180mm with a good focusing range, although focusing is slow because the focus thread has just a 3mm pitch.

The Sony E mount on this part is designed for the later all-metal E-mounts, and it is a loose fit on most E-mount bodies -- I might revise this, but it is usable as is. The last three photos were taken using this lens and focusing adapter on a Sony A7. Note that there is very slight vignetting, which is due to the width of the opening in the adapter; it is not yet clear if the vignetting can be avoided by using a wider tube design.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

MakerGear

Printer:

MakerGear M2

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.25mm or finer

Infill:

20-25%

Notes:

The inner part was printed in black PLA. The outer part was printed in translucent bronze PLA -- which looks very pretty, but isNOT light tight. Don't use a translucent PLA unless you intend to take other steps to make the material light tight. Both are easy prints, but be careful if your printer tends to knock-over tall narrow parts; a little brim might help prevent that.rn

Post-Printing

To make the bronze outer part light tight, I painted the inside with Black 2.0. Although any black paint might suffice, Semple's Black 2.0 is exceptionally matte and black, and it covered in one coat; the only disadvantages are that it easily scratches off and it is much more expensive than the flat black latex wall paint I used to use for this purpose.rnrnAlso make sure your enlarger lens doesn't have fiber optic channels for backlighting the aperture display using light from the enlarger. (This one doesn't, but many do.) Those channels can work in reverse to cause fogging when the lens is used for taking photos. A dab of black paint or tape over each fiber optic port will prevent the fogging.

Category: Camera
