Adapter for optical encoder for MMU2S gear stepper motor.
To get information about speed, direction of the filament when the gear of the MMU2S is active.

I used it for the electric auto rewind spool holder system for the MMU2S.

Print instructions

You need a small disc magnet to make a connection to the shaft of the stepper motor.
I am using a 6x2.5mm disc magnet that is diametrically magnetized, it stays in place better than the axially magnetized magnets and does not rotate with the axis either. These magnets are also used with hall sensors that measure the rotation of an axis. You can also glue the magnet with glue or some kind of mounting fabric. I use poster buddies from Pritt Henkel (just a little bit) for this.

This disc magnet must be placed on the encoder join motor (see drawing).

This encoder join motor is mounted on the shaft of the encoder (see drawing).

The encoder is a standard optical encoder with a 6 mm shaft with a flattened side.
The encoder has two pulse outputs to determine the speed and the direction of rotation with a 5-24VDC connection.
This can be connected directly to, for example, an Arduino Uno (5VDC power supply, GND, and two digital inputs with interrupt option). I use the 600 pulses per rotation execution. Costs about 8 euro.

Place the encoder shim on the encoder according to the drawing, it is made of TPU.

The encoder join is now applied to the assembly with the rounded side facing the encoder.
The whole is secured with three M3 bolts, make sure they are not too long. (see drawing)

To place the whole on the stepper motor, you need four longer M3 bolts, these must be 40 mm long.
There should be four extra M3 40mm bolts in the MMU2S package.
Now carefully remove the four bolts (M3 30mm long) from the back of the stepper motor, only the bolts, leave the rest of the motor in place. Place everything on the back of the gear stepper motor of the MMU2S as shown in the drawing. Secure the assembly with the M3 40mm bolts. Do not over-tighten, this is aluminum that contains the bolts.
