I made these to put between the add a shower mounts and the siding on my house. I added an outdoor shower for the swimming pool and because the mounts are perpendicular to the wall they mount on and siding is at 10 degree angles, something had to sit under them. Put some caulk under the top edge 50 to keep any water from getting behind these. The name on them face outwards and the recessed portion in the center is to make room for an extra 1/4-20 nut to lock the mounting rod in place.
