Adjustable Spherical Joint

Adjustable Spherical Joint

grabcad

Original project made with Autodesk Inventor 2014. The animation and renderings were made using the Inventor Studio module. This mechanism is a particular case of my former project Spherical Mechanisms Puzzle. It can be used to convert a continuous rotation in an oscillation of the output shaft. The input is the rotation of an adjustable crank and the output is the rotation of the rocker by the tiller. The angle (length) of the crank can be changed from 150° to 175° - see the pictures „Minimum Crank.jpg” and „Maximum Crank.jpg”. This changes dramatically the movement of tiller, as you can see in the Video. You can edit the assembly and try the value of 179° instead of 175° to see the maximum dramatism... In order to control the animation I changed the names of five Angle constraints as you can see in the picture „Animation Constraints Names.jpg”. The „Motor” constraint is the angle of the crank (total of 3*360°), and the others are as follows (first value for the large crank and the second for the small): • Length from -25° to 0° controls the total angle of the adjustable crank from 150° to 175° • Crank-Mid from 24° to 10° controls the angular movement of the mid crank • Stud-Left from 153.32° to 165° controls the angular movement of the left stud • Stud-Right from 58.48° to 42° controls the angular movement of the right stud An application of this kind of mechanisms is the „Agile eye”here https://youtu.be/gVlqjA1EKE4 If you use Inventor, you have to download all the files in a single directory, then open the .iam file with Inventor 2014, 2015..., enter Environments/Inventor Studio and change all the settings you want for obtaining a new animation. Enjoy!
