Adjustable tripod mount for tablet or smartphone

thingiverse

This project allows mounting any tablet or smartphone onto any standard camera stand or tripod. The mount is composed on two parts: The base which is screwed onto the camera stand and which integrates the lower groove keeping the tablet in place. The rod which contains the top groove fixing the tablet. It is inserted into the corresponding hole in the base and slid downwards until the tablet hold securely between top and bottom grooves. A clamp screw at the rear of the base is used to secure the rod at the needed height. To hold the screw, a M3 screw nut is inserted into the corresponding cavity from inside the rod rail. An M3x10 wing screw (or just a normal M3 screw) is used to loosen or fasten the rod. Three optional screw holes are also provided, one in the top part of the rod and two in the base, which can be used to attach springs or rubber bands to pull the rod downwards to hold the tablet by the spring force. I found it useful to glue a little piece of soft rubber sheet Besides the fully configurable OpenScad source file, I have included ready-to-print STL files for a larger and a smaller base, as well as rods with lengths 10cm, 13cm, 17cm and 20cm. Choose the rod length according to the width of your tablet or smartphone. Print Settings Supports: No Notes: The provides STL files for the base contain a hole with an inner 1/4-20 UNC thread (the standard for camera mounts), using the thread implementation kindly provided by dkprojects. The parameter gap in the OpenScad source contains the distance between fitting components (base/rod and base/mounting screw) and can be changed if needed. I printed these tablet mounts on my DIY box-frame Prusa i3 using a 0.40mm nozzle with 0.25mm layer height and 0.56mm extrusion width.
