This object has been developed as part of the art project "Whisper Down The Lane", currently being developed by Bronwyn Holloway-Smith in conjunction with the exhibition The Obstinate Object: Contemporary New Zealand Sculpture at City Gallery Wellington, New Zealand (24 February – 10 June 2012). During the exhibition digital 3D models will be made of selected works in The Obstinate Object in collaboration with designers Ant Pelosi and Nick Graham. The files for these models will be released for free download on Thingiverse under a Creative Commons BY-SA-NC License. Each physical work in this series is also available for purchase through a manufacture-on-demand system. The models are being produced in New Zealand using the Open Source RepRap 3D printer (with Vik Olliver). Make sure there are holes to thread them together. The base may need to be printed with support material and/or in two pieces that are then glued together (sliced horizontally). For the base, use a piece of aluminium tube, mark it in place and cut to size with a little circular saw dremmel attachment. File off the burred edges, fit it (pushing it in with a chopstick to not damage the thin tube), file a bit more, and then use a tapered punch to spread the two ends so it doesn't come out easily. You may need to soften the plastic to make sure the edges are flush and brush the wire inside the tube to remove the worst of the marks made by the punch. The wire is coated stainless shark trace, and aluminium 1.5mm electricians "bootlace ferrule" was used for the crimped join.
