8/6/18 - Added new design for K&N filter. Created new cover (AirCover4). Options for AirCover4: You can print it With a Top Scoop or, Without a Top Scoop and glue the scoop on if desired. The photo’s show it glued on. Note: This printed version was done with settings for a rough print to save time and I did not spend time making the paint pretty... The back of the opening has two small protrusions to ensure the cover stays on the filter. Be Sure your machine can print tall parts (these are just over 6 inches tall) The resulting difference is whether or not there’s a seam. Of course, you can fill the seam with Bondo body-filler and sand before painting. You may want to glue a screen inside but, not necessary. If gluing, I recommend Performix VLP (Vinyl/Leather Repair adhesive) and glue only in a few spots - enough to hold it but not enough to make removing it impossible. Recommend using either ABS or PETG. PLA warped on the bike when engine was 340ºF on hot day. 7/24/18 - I’ve made several variations of this but keep going back to the original design because it’s somewhat smaller and looks better to me. It isn’t deep enough to fully cover all of the filter but, I prefer it that way (call me old-school). Also, I don't like glossy paint and the textured paint matches the plastic on the bike ;-) Added photo of original back on bike. The previous model(s) were made in SolidWorks but, this remake is done in FreeCAD - the model adds a few millimeters to the depth if that’s what you prefer (also tweaked a couple of other dimensions). 7/20/18 - Added photo of newly made cover made of PLA: Used Drywall Joint Compound to fill the pours and smooth the surface. Primed, Sanded and Painted. Designed this 4 yrs ago and it's still on the bike! Check your filter/geometry - mine is a K&N small conical size... Print Settings Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 to 0.3mm Infill: Depends on Infill pattern Notes: Made with ABS. PETG is a good alternative. Avoid PLA due to warping potential. No supports needed in the air holes as the radius is large and there are no overhangs. Use at least two shells and two top and bottom layers. Density depends on your printer/software ability to do things like Rectilinear, Honeycomb, Concentric…etc Know your printer and determine what’s best for you and the material…
