Was playing around with the skirt from a job I recently completed, and realized I had come upon something wonderfully entertaining. Behold the air foil ring! It's a very simple toy that plays off of physics to quickly glide through the air. Hours of fun so far for me and a very simple, low cost print that doesn't even require relatively decent quality. The inherit springiness of this print also makes it quite resilient which is a very great plus! I will also work on a couple of possible design tweaks to possibly enhance the flight properties. Update 1: I've added in a few different extra designs. The first is simply a little larger in diameter, the second has added finger notches, and the third with notches but a slightly longer shape. I'll update on how these changes effect the flight and ease of use and look forward to your feedback as well! Update 3: I'm not sure if this has any real benefit but I've added two new versions that have fins that might add to the forward thrust of the rings. Might. I'll be updating about the success of this test. Update 4: Ok so the fins have no effect other than looking pretty cool. Instructions I used just medium quality settings and it printed in about an hour. 0.22 mm layer height and a 0.35 mm nozzle. I had used 80% infill but I don't really think that any amount over 25% would be much of a difference. I use a underhanded throw with a little twisting snap at the end to put a little spin on it to stabilize the ring and it takes care of the rest. I will include a video later on or possibly a drawing to further demonstrate what I've figured out works best so far. Update 1: I've figured out that there is a little easier to aim method of overhand throwing where it resembles a curve ball throw, and you add clockwise spin on the release. Update 2: Video on how to throw : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5dxcURh8MQ&list=UUlq1eLOVbSXa7R4EUiDBHTw
