Air Layering Pods with Pin Hinge

Air Layering Pods with Pin Hinge

thingiverse

This is an air layering pod for the rooting and propagation of plants while still growing on the mother plant. Unlike other pods on Thingiverse, this one uses two pins (coat hanger wire) instead of zip-ties to hold the halves together. This should make it easier to check for root growth and put back together (especially if not using clear resin). To use it, peel the stem of the outer layer of bark, exposing the cambrium, rough up the cambrium, dust with rooting hormone, join the halves around the stem, fill with your medium of choice (peat, etc.), and add water. Check the water periodically to prevent drying out, and within a few weeks, you should start to see roots forming. I made this pod small in order to be able to print it on my resin printer. I may make a larger 4 part pod later. EDIT: I just added a version 2 with that adds a rim around the edge, as I was having problems with the edge on my resin printer. And I just discovered it's much easier to put in one hinge pin, pack damp medium into the halves, clamp it over the stem, and put in the other pin.
