THE SPROCKET MOD This part allows you to fit an induction filter to your R53 Mini Cooper S with zero damage and zero external visibility. It is designed to firmly push-fit into your standard R53 airbox. No glue or bolts needed. Once fitted you can clamp an appropriate 72mm induction filter such as the K&N RU-3190 (shown) inside your air box instead of a regular paper panel filter. The advantage of an induction filter is greater airflow with (arguably) similar filtration levels. This mod does reduce the airflow area from 60mm to 54mm inside the box outlet which equates to a massive 20% loss in cross-sectional area. Not ideal! However, this restriction should only create a high-pressure region rather than a true restriction because it is very short and curved. Overall, flow should improve. If you are looking for better flow still I strongly recommend the R53OC Tim Woodford Mod in preference to this, or a custom airbox, but if, like me, you want to Hobo Mod on the cheap'n'easy, enjoy the make! ------------- UPDATE -------------- I've been using this for two months now in my car without any issue but... I've noticed that the constant heating and cooling can cause the print to shrink slightly. I would strongly recommend you glue or seal it into place because of this. Secondly, the same shrinkage can cause the air-filter to fall off as it becomes loose. if you check it frequently over the first week and re-tighten then this stops happening. Alternatively (untested) it might be worth printing this a few percent larger then pre-shrinking it in a warm oven. Shrinkage will undoubtedly vary by material.
